FSI- DAMOU MISSION INTERN PARTNERSHIP
Meet Jessie Langmeyer
Medical Intern to Damou Mission - Jacmel Haiti
Jessie is a recent PRE-Med Graduate from Cornerstone University. She will be leaving in in the spring semester of 2020 to intern with one of our partner missions, Damou mission in Jacmel Haiti. Here is her letter about her upcoming Internship with Damou Mission.
Friends & Family,
I am writing to inform you of the opportunity I have this January to intern with Damou Christian Mission in Jacmel, Haiti. Damou has been in Jacmel for nearly 30 years, with a school of over 600 children, a medical clinic, a church, a young mothers program, and the Village of Hope senior program. Damou partners with Friendship Sports International Ministries (FSI), which I connected with at Cornerstone University. I recently graduated from CU and am in the process of applying to medical school; I am taking a gap year and I really wanted to spend some of that time in Haiti.
I have taken five one-week trips to Haiti and each one changed my life. I believe God started unfolding my calling through these experiences. I want to be a physician because God broke my heart for what breaks His. I want the Healer to use me as an agent of restoration in a broken world. I want to adopt the attitude of Isaiah when the Lord said in Isaiah 6:8 “‘whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’” I have committed myself to go wherever He leads, and to glorify Him through the use of my gifts and talents.
I have dreamed of going long-term since my first trip in 2014. I am the best version of myself in Haiti and it is so easy to see God working. I have had an increasingly hard time leaving after every trip, so much that my mom thinks I may “accidentally” lose my passport next time I go. I have two kids that I sponsor in Jacmel (through Restore Haiti), Roosleeny and Federson, and my goal is to be able to speak with them in Haitian Creole. I want to learn about their culture and deepen my friendships through a longer stay.
My love for Haiti has grown over the years but I have not fully experienced the practice of medicine there. I think God used those prior trips to prepare me for this opportunity. Damou just opened a clinic last January and I will have the privilege of working alongside Haitian doctors. I will help out with the primary care center and young mothers program, as well as providing medical support during the school day. I will also work alongside Jessica Eugene (director), learning about how a non-profit organization operates.
I would like to ask you to consider supporting me as I pursue this dream, through prayer, and also financially if possible. My anticipated stay is January through April of 2020. My goal is to raise a total of $6,000.00 for expenses such as lodging, food, and transportation. I would like to have $3,000.00 raised by December 15 to cover airfare and my first couple months stay; I will be blogging about my experience, and finishing fundraising during my stay. Donations can be made under my profile at www.damouhaiti.org, and checks can be addressed to “Medical Intern,” and sent to Damou Christian Mission, P.O. Box 544, Arcadia, IN 46030.
Thank you so much for your consideration. Bondye beni ou! (“God bless you!”)
Sincerely, Jessie Langmeyer
