Dear Family and Friends,
25 years ago, on November 1, 1993, Jenny and I settled into the ministry of Friendship Sports International. We had no idea what the Lord would have for us in the future, but we fully believed that He wanted us to follow His leading and to just have faith. What a journey it has been!
It is impossible to remember every story, every person that has traveled with us overseas, been in fellowship with us, or touched our lives during these years. So many stories, all part of how God intertwined lives and families and people and cultures. I look back and say it was an impossible story, one that I could have never made up on my own, but one that God had uniquely planned just for the people who have made up the play. What a privilege it has been to be asked by our Father to be in the play!
We are not the same people who pulled into Upland, Indiana that cold, gray Fall day. We are obviously a lot older, not the young, spry youngsters with visions of grandeur. No, the realities of two broken people who loved God and family, and were willing to go into the unknown in spite of our obvious, and also unseen, shortcomings, has made for our own unique story. All is us have stories, unique to us and to our families, all broken and incomplete. Yet God uses people exactly like us! I will be forever grateful for His grace towards us, towards our family, using brokenness to show His strength.
There are literally thousands of people who have been a part of our journey. Many of these people believed in us, prayed for us, and cheered us on. We have also had our fair share of people who would not believe in us and have been negative. Regardless, all of these people have been used by God to shape us as His children. Jenny and I talk often about the incredible paradigm shifts He has taken us through over the last 15 years, not because of our goodness or works toward perfection. No, it has been in our brokenness and desperate need for His mercy and grace. Many of you have had a profound impact on our journey, being part of the hands and feet of Jesus.
At this point of our lives, as our kids are grown and the wonderful blessing of grandchildren have been gifted to us, I realize what a blessed life we have been given. How the true Gospel is for all the people of the earth, from the poorest of the poor to the highest offices of the nations of the earth. These truths, as they are lived out by our children, and are being taught to our grandchildren, is the absolute greatest legacy that we could hope to leave behind. As we watch what the Lord is doing in the lives of our kids we are so moved by the wisdom and love of our God.
I could go on and on about all of the programs that Friendship Sports is doing, but that will be in a future blog. This blog is about what God has done in our lives over the last twenty five years. Even though we have made so many mistakes over the years and are imperfect people, God totally loves us, paid for every imperfection, and has consistently spoken out our names and our calling, who we were made to be, and that He is perfect in completing that task within us. And we love what He is doing in us!
Thank you for your part in this journey. We look forward to what the Lord has next for FSI, and for our family.
Sincerely in Christ,
